Unfortunately, the misbegotten idea is an old one, fostered by the medical profession and the clergy alike, that: "Life and health are matters of chance and fortuity. Life is haphazard. Law and order do not rule. If one is healthy, he is fortunate. If he becomes ill, this is his misfortune." These foolish notions of chaos and luck were born of ignorance. There is no longer any reason why they should be held, cherished, and taught.
M
How foolish to wait until you stand with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peeling, before you begin to look for health! Pick a pathological ("diseased") situation, any situation. Take kidney disease, for example. Many thousands of deaths each year are attributed to kidney diseases. People who die of kidney diseases abuse themselves all their lives and begin to look for health after it is too late. There is also the tendency of those who live haphazardly, dangerously, against The Natural, Physiological Laws of Life with an attitude of impunity until chronic disease is built, to develop a pathological pessimism that compels them to believe that there is no hope. These hopeless, miserable souls adopt "The Medical Mentality at Its Very Worst" and submit to drugs or to the removal of their organs in endeavors to get out of their troubles.
M
There is another fatal error committed by those who hold to the prevailing view that: "There is time enough to look for health when I have lost it." It is this: they do not know when they have lost their health! A man dies suddenly, and his friends may be heard saying: "He was the picture of health!" Or "The strong go quickly!" Or there are those who are under 50 years of age, who declare that they have not been sick a day in their lives and then die suddenly. Many of these same people have never been TRULY WELL a day in their lives! They know not the signs of health! The People can hardly be blamed. They have been brainwashed by members of the medical profession, who also lack a true, dependable knowledge of the signs of health. It is not just the doctors who have been indoctrinated into this false paradigm! It is The People, as well! They have all adopted "The Medical Mentality at Its Very Worst."
M
Medical colleges are founded on the false paradigm of naming diseases and prescribing their cures. The medical student is taken to hospitals and clinics to see diseases aplenty, then taken to the dissecting rooms and morgues where he can see dead people galore and where he can study the pathological changes that exist in the dead bodies. The whole emphasis is on disease and death -- not on health and life! No importance whatsoever is attached to health. Medical colleges do not teach health. It is true that they teach physiology, as they teach pathology. But, whereas, in teaching pathology, it is thought necessary for the student to spend much time in the hospitals and clinics and in the pathology laboratory, learning the signs and symptoms of disease, the students of physiology are required to make no study of healthy men and women. They do not study the signs and symptoms and causes of health.

No
professor of medicine ever gave a lecture on "The Etiology of Health."
They all talk long and learnedly on "The Etiology of Disease."An institute that would teach how to achieve health would be on "The Right Track" compared to a clinic that focuses on diseases. The foundation of an institute that is on "The Right Track" would be built on the foundational bedrock teachings: "The body is self-healing, self-cleansing, and self-maintaining; and these activities that create health do so under the conditions of the individual following a list of laws we call "The Natural, Physiological Laws of Life."
M
The place to teach The People how to get well and stay well is not at the bedside of a sick person or in a stuffy classroom setting -- but out in a natural and pristine setting, out in the open, where a health-filled, thriving, happy life is lived! And yet, nobody ever heard of a medical college holding class in a gymnasium or on the beach. And Health Directors continue to run places right in the middle of a city, smeared with noise pollution in the air waves and smog in the air, with nothing natural surrounding them but a lawn and maybe a few shrubs or scrawny trees. Where is the Health Director who will open a mountain health retreat and give lectures right from an Hygienic dining room table or while sitting at an outdoor picnic table with the guests and where all are surrounded by the beauty of Nature and can hear truths on the subjects of health and its evidences at the same time?
M
Educated to recognize a perfect physique on sight, painters and sculptors bid for perfect specimens of physical development. By contrast, the medical students are taught to recognize disease, not in its initial stages, but only after it has reached an advanced stage. They fail to see the evidences of weakness, disease, faulty development, and actual deformity in the average man, woman, and child. The painter does not know why his ideally healthy subject is healthy. The medical man, likewise, does not know why his ideally sick man is sick. Medicine men are simply sure that disease is caused by a germ or by a virus or by a rebellion of the organs or by other such mysterious malefactors. When he wants someone to sit for a picture or pose for a statue, the painter or the sculptor bids for an ideal subject. He searches for the healthiest and best developed individual he can find! These men know the expression of every muscle and the effects that lifting the leg or arm will have on certain muscles. Physicians are not so well educated. The artist may quickly detect any distortion of a limb, but the physician cannot tell without an X-ray whether a limb is dislocated. Physicians of today are trained in the use of "instruments of precision," like an engineer or a tool maker. But they are not educated in health and beauty and happiness!
M
In 1932, a young Olympic champion left one of the most famous hospitals in America, in New York City, and came here to the Health School. The diagnosis made by the staff at the hospital was "brain tumor." Other specialists had concurred upon the diagnosis. No amount of drugging had afforded the patient even temporary "relief" from many symptoms. To operate was the only sensible thing left to do. At the Health School, this man lost his symptoms in 24 hours. He lived for years thereafter, had no operation on his head, and had no brain tumor. With all their "instruments of precision," all their laboratory techniques, they could not diagnose a "simple head congestion." And so it goes. It was noted in the last century: "We can put a man on the moon, but we cannot cure the common cold!"
M
Much of medical practice at its very worst is built on a lie, on a false paradigm of what is the cause of disease; whereas, we Hygienists know that in almost all cases, the individual simply becomes sick because the bodily tissues and fluids have lost their purity to an overload of toxic poisons. The medical doctor trained in The Medical Mentality at Its Very Worst is only interested in disease. Health provides him with no source of income! Yet with all of his study of disease, he needs gadgets. Every disease has its expression. And he who knows all about it can read it as it runs its course; he does not need the microscope or X-ray. He can see it across the street if he knows what he is reading. Indeed, some toxic conditions may be detected by the nose. Physicians do not recognize disease because they do not know health. Because they do not know health, many of their "normal" standards are faulty. Their standards are averages of what are found in SICK men and women!
M
Young, medical graduates are sent away from the medical colleges, knowing no little about the habits of healthy men and women than they know of the habits of sick men and women. In the autopsy room, they open the body of a dead man. "Abscessed liver," they say, "was the cause of death." But why was the liver abscessed? Their supposed "cause of death" means nothing! The dead man, unfortunately, cannot tell what he did that led up to the formation of the abscess. In the morgue is certainly no place to study causes! All one studies in such a place is end points. Another abdomen is opened, and a sclerosed (hardened) liver is found. The professor exclaims: "He died of alcoholism!" There are sclerosed livers in those who do not drink. How do they know the man before them died of too much drinking? Going to the morgue and studying end points throws not a single, solitary ray of light on the subject of cause.
M
Dr. Russell Thacker Trall, in the late 1800s, professed: "Health is not in the technically professional line of the physician." He argued: "Going to the dead house to study disease and its causes is a great mistake and vitiates all of their reasoning and all of their practices." It is not absolutely true that: "Dead men tell no tales." But there is a very wide sense in which this is true. To search for the causes of disease and death in the bodies of the dead is like sifting through the ashes to determine the causes of the fire. A study of the habits and of the results of the practice of these habits would give a yield of truth that would revolutionize our whole outlook upon health, upon LIFE! But such studies are beneath the dignity of science. Such studies are deemed: "subjective, unscientific, useless."
M
Where is the medical college, where are the research personnel that have studied results of the tea, coffee, tobacco, alcohol, and such habits and compared the users of these drugs with the nonusers? Why have medical colleges and medical research institutions given so little attention to the influence of diet upon the health and disease of man? Why did medical colleges from the late 1800s up to today begin to teach Hygiene to their students, only after they were forced to do so by those Hygienically minded persons? Why was Hygiene ignored and refused in every medical college in the world 75 years ago? Why has the profession consistently neglected the study of health from its very beginning?
M
The cumulative effects of our habits of living remain unrecognized by those who refuse to admit the reign of law and order in the realm of life! The persistent refusal of medical personnel to study the influence of The 10 Energy Enhancers on our bodies and to find and wisely interpret The Natural, Physiological Laws of Life has led the profession, and through them, man and woman, along a fool's path of misery to their destruction. Knowledge and good sense are required to live right, and too many have refused to acquire the knowledge or to exercise the good sense. Sensualists who think that life is not worth living without a load of health-destroying habits will not recognize the need for a study of the influence of habits upon our health and our diseases. Only the wise and the intelligent will seek to know and to understand. To experience an ongoing state of thriving and happy health, we need to learn The Natural, Physiological Laws of Life and allow ourselves to be governed by them in the direction of health! For make no mistake about it: the Laws work both ways! We build and maintain our own physical woes by refusing to listen to the warnings sent out by our special senses. We eat, and discomfort follows. We do not seek to know why discomfort follows. We go, rather, to a physician who explains that we have a displaced stomach or an inflamed appendix or an abscessed tonsil; and we swallow the medications and/or submit to the operations.
M
Perhaps, the physician gives us a test meal and analyzes the contents of our stomach. Then, he very gravely informs us that we have too much or too little hydrochloric acid or that we lack pepsin. Why is there not enough acid? Why is there too much acid? Why is there not sufficient pepsin? "Who cares?" he bellows. What he means to say is this: "Take my drugs and forget about causes! These will give you relief. If worst comes to worst, we can always operate and remove what ails you." Of course, after the patient is dead, his troubles will no longer trouble him! He will have his relief! To miss a few meals will suffice to correct the digestive discomfort, but only fools and ascetics will deny themselves the "pleasures" of the palate when food is abundant. Anyway, how can one live without food? We have been brainwashed to believe: "We must eat to keep up our strength! If we don't eat, our resistance is lowered; and we will be invaded by legions of virulent bacteria."
M
Why discomfort after a meal? Overeating is a common cause. Hurried eating without proper mastication of food is another. Wrongly combined meals is a rarely suspected cause. Or, indigestion may result from worry, fatigue, sensuality, lack of sleep, domestic infelicity, the strenuous life, lack of exercise. How foolish to administer a pill to cure a symptom caused by overeating, wrong food combining, and distress! How unscientific to search for cures when causes may be known and removed!
