I remember the very first 2 times I ever tried alcohol! First experiment: 1961 & 16 years old in high school... friend came back from fishing in Alaska for the summer with 190-proof Everclear... drank enough to lose track of most of the night & slept all the next day... wondered why the kids all liked getting drunk so much... remember thinking I would have rather been riding my horse in the full moon all night than drinking myself stupid! Then, 2nd experiment: 19 years old at a college party... drank most of a bottle of champagne... slept the entire next 24 hours... thought what a waste of time that had been!
***
I remember the very last time I ever touched alcohol: 1990 & 45 years old... quit completely the occasional drink for decades... one night, imbibed a few cocktails with an old college girlfriend who was a daily drinker... we celebrated my paying off a $5,000 loan to her with drinks... wanted to be social... got dizzy, got sick, slept the entire next day...
END OF STORY!
There is a way to have our margaritas & daiquiris... but without the toxic & numbing, sleep-inducing & sickening alcohol. We can still have the daring droplets of the drink without the bad buzz of the booze!
Today?
We combine
THE LIVE-FOOD GRANITA with 2 world-wide, sweet & sour favorites: The Margarita & The Daquiri -- but both of ours are prepared & served up without all the poison
& with all the fabulous flavors of live-food!
Our Margagranita
Formula
=
Mildly sweet fruit juice
+ a dash of ginger powder
(or a little bit of ginger juice)
+ lemon &/or lime juice to suit your sour sense of taste!
***
The traditional, alcohol-based margarita is always made with tequila + lemon &/or lime juice + ice cubes. It is prepared shaken over the ice or served as a blended-frozen drink with a straw or even a spoon. The true margarita is always distinguished by the rim of the glass first being dipped in lime juice & then in fine, granular salt. It's an enduring, enchanting Spanish-&-Mexican thing! A little dish of more lime wedges & salt is usually served up, as well, for more squeezing & dipping!
***
Our MARGAGRANITA, however, is made with a mildly sweet fruit juice + a dash of powdered ginger or a tiny bit of fresh ginger juice instead of the tequila + lemon &/or lime juice. It is then prepared GRANITA-style according to the above directions. The rim of the glass is first
dipped in lime juice & then in fine-ground-up date sugar or my powdered seasoning GINGER JOLT! We can likewise serve up a little dish of more lime wedges & -- for more squeezing & dipping -- a little pile of GINGER JOLT!
The Granita
Daiquiri
Formula
=
Mildly sweet fruit juice
+ another, even sweeter fruit juice or the sweeter fruit in whole pieces blended in
+ lemon &/or lime juice
to suit your sour sense of taste!
***
The
traditional, alcohol-based daiquiri is always made with the slightly sweet spirit of rum + a fruit juice + a sweet fruit syrup or fruit liqueur + lemon juice, as desired + ice cubes. It is prepared shaken over ice or as a blended-frozen drink & is served in a fancy glass -- usually with a large rim & a likewise fancy garnish.
***
Our GRANITA DAIQUIRI, however, holds a mildly sweet fruit juice instead of rum & a decidedly sweet fruit syrup or extra sweet whole fruit + lemon juice, as desired. It is prepared GRANITA-style according to above
directions. It can be served in the same fancy glass as the alcohol version -- with the large rim & a fancy garnish, as well.
The original daiquiri was shaken over ice & served. But the frozen daiquiri became quite popular with the advent of the common blender & now our "super-blenders" -- like THE VITA-MIX.
The same fruit can be used for both the juice in the recipe, as well as for the whole fruit.
