 RECIPE FORMULA FOR
COLD MELON SILK =
COLD MELON -- JUICED!
Every melon I know tastes wonderful juiced! And served cold? Smooth melon juice is so refreshing! You do not always have to give an unappetizing melon to your horse! In fact, a melon that is not so yummy whole -- because it is not sweet enough or because it is a little mushy or too crunchy or whatever -- is always yummy -- juiced! So the COLD MELON SILK recipe formula is to simply juice your icy-cold melon into a silky smooth drink!
 
RECIPE FORMULA FOR MELON SLUSHY =
FROZEN MELON CHUNKS, VITA-MIXED!
Remember: All melons are 95% - 98% water! So, they do not need to be juiced first to make a beverage -- unless you want to make the drink sooooo silky smooth and you want that 5% of the fiber out! But why would you -- especially if you are adding other ingredients that have fiber in them that thicken up the mix, anyway?
 
To make the MELON SLUSHY, get the melon-of-your-choice meat out of the rind. If you have a melon-lovin' critter around? Feed him the rinds and any seeds. And for watermelons? Use seedless or remove any seeds: you can leave watermelon seeds in, but the stunning-red color gets all muddied up. Then freeze the melon meat. Finally, VITA-MIX the frozen melon with about 1/4 cup water or juice for a starter. Pour and serve! You can mix 2 flavors, of course. Better than convenience store slushies in every way! And so refreshing!
 
Also, to make the MELON SLUSHY, you can use the rinds to get the very most for your $$$! You have probably seen it done on some commercial on T.V. But the flavor is so compromised, I do not juice the rind to save the $$$. High would have a fit if I did that, anyway! He loves all melons -- especially on hot days! He would prefer I leave as much meat on the rind as possible!

 LEMONMELONAIDE SLUSHY = very sweet melon meat, frozen
+ lemon juice to taste

LIMEMELONAIDE SLUSHY = very sweet melon meat, frozen + lime juice to taste
 
YOU CAN USE 1 OR MORE     MELON SLUSHY
VARIETY-MAKERS:
  • ginger root juice to taste, VITA-MIXED in

  • a twist of lemon or lime garnish

  • lemon &/or lime zest garnish

  • crushed mint leaves, left in to soak a bit

  • crushed cilantro leaves, stirred in

  • tomatillo juice to taste, VITA-MIXED in

  • raspberry or strawberry juice stirred in

  • whole & unfrozen melon balls or whole berries or fresh fruit dices stirred in

    A NOTE ABOUT THE COLD
    & MELON SWEETNESS:
    Freezing any food and then eating it very cold does tend to numb the 10,000 taste buds just a little bit. We experience this subjectively as reduced sweetness. That is why -- if you want your cold beverage to be really sweet -- start with melons REALLY, REALLY SWEET! OR YOU CAN ALWAYS ADD A SWEETENER.

    BASIC KOOL-SMOOTHY FORMULA
    =
    Frozen Fruit
    +
    Liquid
     
    DIRECTIONS: 
    VITA-MIX
    until smooth!
     
    SMOOTHY NOTES on the frozen fruits you choose -- they can be any of these:
  • some banana ice cream
  • a fruit sorbet
  • a fruit slushy
  • whole frozen fruit or chunks
  • frozen fruit juice ice cubes
    If the fruit is frozen-cold, it will work to make a smoothy!

  • SMOOTHY NOTES on the type  &  amounts of liquid you choose:
  • You must have a little liquid as a starter for the VITA-MIX to do its smoothy-making job.
  • Any tasty liquid will add to the flavor. But if you use water, it will dilute the yummy flavors slightly. I never use water! Do as you please!
  • You want a thin smoothy? Use more liquid &/or less whole foods, of course!
  • You want a thick smoothy? Use more whole foods &/or less liquid, of course!
  • Vary the amounts for varied flavor appeal! By varying the amounts, you have completely different recipes, even though the ingredients are the same!

  • SMOOTHY NOTES on how to make a sweeter beverage --
    you can choose from these various ways to sweeten up an otherwise dull smoothy:
  • You can add dried fruit to both sweeten and flavor your smoothy.
  • Dates are the best sweetener if you do not want the dried fruit taste to interrupt the flavors of your masterfully planned smoothy. Dates have an uncanny talent to mimic refined sugar = adds sweetness without adding a whole, other flavor!
  • You can keep raw date sugar on hand & use it like we used to use the refined sugar bowl.
  • Your added liquid can be the sweetest fruit juice you have on hand. For me? It is always grape juice as my first sweet choice.
  • There are other products you can use. Some like raw agave nectar, which I avoid because of the price. Some like honey, which I avoid because of The Natural Hygiene.
